Voyager Memorial Park, Huskisson - War Memorial Wall Expansion

When Globe Memorial was approached by the president of the Huskisson RSL sub-Branch, the brief was clear, but it carried some responsibility. The existing War Memorial Walls at Voyager Memorial Park needed to be extended to include more than 150 additional names, while maintaining complete consistency with the original inscriptions.

This was not simply a matter of adding new names. The integrity of the memorial had to be preserved. Existing inscriptions required correction, and every new addition needed to sit naturally within the established layout, without any visual disruption.

The scope of works included:

• Engraving over 150 additional service personnel, including names, corps of service and relevant dates
• Amending existing inscriptions where required
• Ensuring complete alignment with original lettering, spacing and layout

Accuracy was critical. Every detail had to be checked and approved before any work began.

Work began with a detailed on-site assessment of the existing walls. This allowed the team to confirm access requirements, assess suitability for on-site sandblasting and plan the works without disrupting the surrounding memorial environment.

The design and layout stage followed. Existing inscriptions were carefully analysed to match font style, size, spacing and alignment. Artwork proofs were prepared and reviewed to ensure each name was represented accurately before proceeding.

Once approved, precision-cut vinyl stencils were produced and applied directly to the granite. These stencils guided the engraving to ensure each addition was positioned correctly and remained consistent across the wall.

The inscriptions were then sandblasted into the stone using a technique that cuts cleanly into the surface to create a permanent finish.

Work on war memorials is different. These are not just projects or structures. They are places communities return to, to remember and reflect.

Being trusted to work on them is something we take seriously, not just for the level of skill involved, but for what they represent.

The completed works extend the existing memorial in a way that feels consistent and considered.

New inscriptions sit comfortably alongside the original, without any indication that some additions were made decades later. We are proud of the finished result, and the Huskisson RSL President, Executive staff and members of the public have expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the outcome and presentation of the Memorial.

Work of this kind requires a level of care where accuracy, restraint and respect matter just as much as the technical execution.
